A visual timeline of technological milestones and changing environmental properties contributing to indelible legacies, along with projected far-reaching influences across intervals of deep time – chronicling significant historical events for outreach and engagement with the ‘long futurity’.
Observe our Ecological Interactions. Forecast Deep-Time Legacies. Educate Generations on Impacts.
The timeline has been provisionally assembled as an educational tool to visually illustrate milestones in the [past] development of some emergent, socio-technological material legacies arising from our recent history. The future trajectory of this timeline also plots the anticipated and enduring reach for some of these residual impacts across intervals of deep time. Please use the colour legend to equate these chronological markers with the corresponding field under study in the ‘After the Horizon’ archiving programme. The information for each marker has been established by third party international research institutes and consortia, alongside some foundation resources, with links to relevant research provided.
Over the coming months, we will continue to populate and integrate further research within this feature, and hopefully make it easier to discover more about the influence our modern generations can now exert across the far future of humanity. Parts of the feature may look inconsistent at present, and some interactive research links may not work as we continue to work on the timeline. We appreciate your patience, and seek to also integrate your suggestions of chronological markers within this timeline.
